The Mermaid is a Zygote model. The islands are an early attempt at multiple terrains with different textures, a layering of trees (spiked foliage), terrain (cliffs) and beach, all variants of the same terrains. Note, the ocean is a terrain as well, with large scale waves beneath the smaller ripples.
