South Tower

Left

The War Department in the early 20th Century erected four observation towers at corners of the field. These were used by cadets and others studying the battle. These pictures were taken from the South Tower, where Longstreet assembled his forces for the Day 2 attack. The above picture is taken to the North. The Virginia Memorial is just out of sight to the left.

Panning right, Cemetery Hill is in the distant center. Again, the rise in ground going left to right, towards the Peach Orchard, is visible.

One of the few shots taken with the zoom lens attached. Cemetery Hill from the South Tower. The Emmitsburg Road and Codori Farm are hidden among the trees. The Angle Tree and its companion monument are just visible on the right.
